I am 55 and was inspired by my 19 year old son to get moving after a diagnosis of Parkinson’s Disease last year. I started by walking, going to the gym and Pilates and recently we’ve completed two running events together - Hill 2 Harbour, Newcastle and Maitland Running Festival 12 km for me and the half marathon for my son. It is such an emotional experience to be participating in something so difficult and be able to keep putting one foot in front of the other to make it to the finish line. I am immensely proud of my achievements and will continue to set personal goals and enjoy these events with my son! At this point exercise, hydration, nutrition and sleep are my medicine. They are non negotiable in me continuing to have a good quality of life. Running with my son has been the bonus gift to me!
